Our Technical Blog on Telecommunications Infrastructure
Nice to meet you. My name is Tadashi Ogami, and I am responsible for technology strategy for NEC’s telecommunications infrastructure business.
I am pleased to announce the start of this technology blog, where we will share insights and perspectives on the future of communications infrastructure.
In this blog, We will cover a wide range of topics including 6G, AI, cloud technologies, data centers, optical networks, and space communications. Beyond technology itself, I would also like to share the ideas behind the vision of NEC's Network Solutions Business Division, "Trusted Connectivity Empowering an AI-Native Society," as well as our challenges in turning that vision into reality.
I hope to discuss the changes taking place in society, developments in research, and the insights I gain through discussions with experts and industry leaders from around the world.
Recently, I have come to believe that thinking about the future of communications is, in many ways, the same as thinking about the future of society itself.
When you hear the term communications infrastructure, what comes to mind?
Base stations, optical fiber, routers, and antennas are all essential components. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to discuss the future of communications infrastructure solely in terms of these technologies. This is because the advent of generative AI is beginning to fundamentally change the role that networks play.
Traditionally, networks have primarily served to connect people and systems. In the years ahead, however, we will enter an era in which AI Agents communicate, collaborate, and make decisions together to help drive society. Autonomous vehicles, robotics, disaster response, and smart cities are just a few examples. In such a world, communications infrastructure will no longer be merely a platform for connectivity; it will become something more like the nervous system of society itself.
At Interop Tokyo 2026, I had the opportunity to participate in a fireside discussion with Professor Akihiro Nakao of the University of Tokyo, where we explored how networks will evolve in the age of AI. One of the strongest impressions I took away from that discussion was that the time when AI and networks could be considered separately is rapidly coming to an end.
Looking ahead, intelligent networks will increasingly anticipate what AI systems need before requests are even made, dynamically optimizing resources and enabling AI applications to operate more effectively. In the future, intelligent networks will be able to anticipate what AI applications and agents intend to do, proactively adapt their behavior, and optimize the performance of the entire AI ecosystem.
Being part of this industry at such a transformative moment is incredibly exciting. Through this blog, I look forward to sharing that excitement, exploring emerging technologies, and discussing how communications infrastructure will help shape the future of an AI Native Society.
